For a successful Grand Rapids Newborn Photography session it is critical that your photographer answers the following questions. This article details the important components needed for the perfect newborn session.
It is best to have your baby come to my studio when they are 7-10 days.
Your babies age is the foundation for the perfect newborn session. If you are breast feeding and your baby is too young its possible your milk supply has not full developed. Why does this matter you might think. Well a hungry baby is not a happy baby. Because I work at your babies pace I let your baby decide when they want to eat. So, if your milk is not in yet your baby would fuss through out the session.
As we all know babies do not come when it is convenient for you. Because of babies call all the shots, I limit my schedule to be sure I have availability when your precious bundle of joy decides to come.
I have lots of babies that come to me outside of my ideal window. I am successful with babies outside of the optimal range because of my patience. When your baby is outside of the 7-10 day window they become more alert. Your baby being alert just means it takes more time to calm and sooth them back to sleep.
Morning newborn sessions are the best. My sessions typically start around 9:30AM.
Second only to age, is time of day. For the first few weeks your baby will sleep 18+ hours. You might ask yourself, well if they sleep that much why is the time of day so important. With your babies day just starting there is limited amount of activity to get your babies attention. With less going on right before the session will help for a perfect newborn session.
Cluster feeding is where your baby with appear as if they are always hungry and constantly want more milk. Cluster feeding is another key reason for morning sessions. Most babies do their cluster feeding closer to the evenings. Where a full baby is a happy baby.
Of course, your baby is the focus of the session. It is my top priority to keep your baby happy and safe.
All of my newborn sessions are baby led. This means if your baby is hungry we stop what we are doing and hand baby to mom or dad to get something to drink. Because my sessions are baby led and I stop everything when baby needs to eat I recommend mornings. If your baby was cluster feeding during our session I would leave little time for photos.
With a baby centric process, I do not guarantee any poses.
With your babies happiness and health being my top priority, if your baby does not like it I do not do it. I have virtually endless ways we can safely pose your baby. Because of my baby centric process, I do not guarantee any pose. I will not force baby into any position that they do not want to be in.
My wraps are designed and done in such a manor to keep your baby happy and warm. Some babies just seem to never be happy. This is were my patients and experience come in. Using my tried and true techniques I can calm almost any baby. This will let me get them in some amazing natural poses.
