Knowing that you have an amazing Grand Rapids Newborn Photographer is critical, so you have confidence that your investment will ensure amazing pictures. This article with show you a few of the most important questions commonly asked.
Absolutely!! With all of my newborn sessions I want you to get what you fully envision for your newest little one down to the colors! Each family receives a newborn questionnaire after they book that includes everything that I need to know for your session! You will have questions like, what are your favorite colors? Is there any colors you would like me to avoid? This gives me a perfect snapshot of what you are looking for, so when it comes time to uniquely style your session, I have everything I need in order to make your vision come to life!
Everything is absolutely included! You do not need to bring a single thing besides yourselves and that precious little baby of yours! I have a studio fully equipped for both boy and girl set ups in every color you can imagine! I provide everything from handmade wraps, headbands, props, fabrics, loveys and so much more! Of course, I always encourage families to bring anything sentimental they would like to be incorporated into the session and there will be a section on the newborn questionnaire regarding this, so I am prepared on how to accommodate any special requests!
I use top of the line equipment for all of my sessions. I specifically use a full frame DSLR camera and all high quality, prime lenses! In the studio, I only use a 35mm f/1.4 lens! This ensures that I can be extremely close to baby at all times to keep baby as safe as possible throughout the session. You may also see me pull out my Macro 105mm f/2.8 prime lens for those really close of images of baby, like eyelashes, lips, and toes! In the studio, I also use a top of the line Einstein Strobe Flash for all of my indoor work to ensure consistency and amazing quality lighting for all of my sessions! I have invested in only the best quality to ensure that I can deliver and overall amazing experience to families and high quality images every single time!!
I try to keep my studio extremely calm and relaxing for your baby’s newborn session! All lights are kept off, except for the studio lighting to help limit any additional stimulation to your baby. During the session, it is extremely warm! Like 80-85 degrees! This is so important for a successful newborn session as baby has been so used to being warm and cozy for the last nine months!
I also play a white noise/shusher app as it helps babies stay very calm during the session! All of these measure tend to make parents really sleepy over on the sofa area and it isn’t uncommon for me to catch them taking a much needed nap! Most parents tell me, between the white noise, the warmth of the room, and the dim lighting, it is very hard for an overtired parent to stay awake! And that is completely okay!! Your jobs is to come, relax, and enjoy the overall experience… and take a nap if you need ;)!
Like I said above, the studio is kept very warm! 80-85 degrees to be exact! You may wonder why and I will tell you it is for a very good reason! All babies are used to being so snug and warm in their mommy’s tummy for the last 9 months! Being bundled and warm is one of their favorite things!
For some newborn sessions, where I do naked poses with baby, the temperature is so important! Babies who feel warm and cozy, sleep much better and are less fussy overall during their session. It is also a huge safety measure as little newborns are not quite able to regulate their own body temperature. So, making sure they stay warm enough is a top priority of mine while in the studio. I definitely encourage parents to wear comfortable, light clothing and change into their photo outfits right before we are ready!
This is a great and common question that many parents have! I have many parents often tell me “good luck, he/she hates to be swaddled or they love their arms up”. I assure you, that I have never had a baby, even if a parent tells me this in the beginning, be upset after being swaddled. Actually, this is the time where baby sleeps the hardest during the entire session!
Remember, babies were super snug and warm for the last nine months! This is all they know! Of course this is what baby needs in order to help soothe themselves! This is also why we have things such as sleep sacks, so baby can’t startle themselves awake!
With my background as a pediatric nurse working in the ICU with very sick newborns and being a mom myself, I have quite the experience with handling and calming newborns. Sometimes it’s a matter of a new parent not knowing the best way to swaddle or repeat parents are just not comfortable doing it! It takes a lot of time and practice to get the perfect swaddle! If baby can bust out of your wrap, your swaddle is not done properly!
I know so many different wrapping techniques, that I assure you, one is bound to work on your baby during the session! Trust me when I say, baby’s love to be swaddled! They just need to be swaddled correctly using the right technique!
