I know just as well as you how difficult it can be to stay active while you’re expecting. Your body doesn’t work the way it usually does. It’s difficult to make yourself want to move (especially later down the line) and on top of that, most exercise classes aren’t designed to accommodate pregnant women. Luckily, there’s Ann Arbor Prenatal Yoga for the win!
Prenatal Yoga particularly is more focused towards relaxation than pure exercise, yoga is an awesome way to stay in motion while your little one is on the way. And you’re in luck—there are so many good options in Ann Arbor. Several of them have classes specifically aimed towards expecting mothers.
This place is awesome. If you want zen, this is it. They have a ton of classes, including a wonderful prenatal yoga class. Their prenatal yoga class is offered in a 6-week series and is open to women in any stage of pregnancy. Whether you’re new to yoga or are an experienced yogi looking for a way to continue practice through pregnancy, these classes are a great way to motivate you to stay active, flexible, comfortable, and fit. The classes are structured around you and your needs, so you don’t need to worry about this being too intense.
This studio definitely leans into the “relaxation” element of yoga. They even have some classes that are purely aimed towards relaxing you and your body rather than getting exercise. So if you’re trying to calm yourself and keep centered during your pregnancy, this might be a good place for you.
If you’re looking for a sweatier alternative with a greater focus on athleticism, you might want to give Aum Yoga a go. This place means business, and they’re not afraid to show it; they even have a super-cute athletic wear line called “FThisIsHard.”
There isn’t a class series specifically tailored to prenatal yoga, but they make the list anyway. They make the list because they have a great roster of yoga instructors and provide an option for 1:1 yoga teaching sessions in the studio. That personalized attention means your instructor will be able to guide you along your yoga journey. They will guide you in a way that’s safe for your little one and customized for an expecting mom.
This one’s a little different—instead of a yoga studio that offers prenatal classes, this is a pregnancy and family center that provides yoga classes. This is a great opportunity to not only remain active, but also to create community. In addition to creating a community your can learn from an experienced set of pregnancy and family educators. In addition to yoga classes, they offer a wide set of parenting classes, doula services, and counseling. The best part is if you haven’t gotten enough yoga by the time your little one arrives, they have postnatal yoga classes too!
This is far from a full list of Ann Arbor prenatal yoga options, just a few of my favorites. There are so many good options in the Ann Arbor. If none of these happen to interest you, the good news is most yoga practices are able to accommodate pregnant students. The can adjust help guide you in their normal classes if you give the instructor a heads’ up beforehand. It’s so important to take care of your body and your mind during pregnancy. Yoga is a great way to help you take care of your self mentally and physically.
